YouTube Approval Process for Classroom Teachers
This is an overview of the YouTube approval process for classroom teachers as outlined by Google for Education. As you may know, Google Workspace for Education includes tools that allow school teachers to manage access to YouTube content for students in a way that supports safe and effective teaching.
Under the current policy, teachers may approve access to specific YouTube videos for instructional use. However, these videos may require approval before they can be viewed by students using managed school accounts. Here's how the process typically works:
-
Teacher Approval: When a teacher encounters a video that is restricted for student viewing, they can approve the video by clicking the “Approve” button on the bottom right corner of the video. (If the video is already approved for MEUSD, it will state this in the grey bar below the video)
-
Student Access: Once approved, the video becomes accessible to students who are signed into their school accounts and are within the allowed groups or organizational units. (Teachers can also embed the videos in their curriculum or Google Classroom assignments).
To ensure a smooth experience:
-
Teachers must be signed into their school-issued Google account when accessing YouTube.
-
Regular communication between teachers and IT staff is encouraged to streamline approvals and minimize instructional delays.
If you have questions about this process or need assistance with video approvals, please feel free to reach out to the IT department at Ext 0000 or tech@meusd.org
